About the opportunity

The Human Resources Coordinator will support people operations across the organisation, establishing clear operational guidelines, facilitating volunteer onboarding, and creating systems that improve internal communication, eliminate operational friction, and enhance overall team productivity.

Who we are looking for

An organised, empathetic and proactive collaborator with solid remote-working experience who can manage personnel workflows, establish clear structures, and help distributed team members thrive. Experience working within an agile team environment (such as participating in stand-ups, iterative planning or task boards) is required. Applicants should be highly adaptable, resourceful, eager to learn, and passionate about imparting positive values in others. Professional proficiency in English is required; proficiency in Hausa is a strong asset for field and community coordination. Willingness to travel for occasional in-person community outreaches in the near future is required.

Nice to have: Familiarity with modern collaboration, project management and workspace tools such as ClickUp, Jira, Notion, Trello, Slack, and Google Workspace, as well as AI-enabled productivity aids. The ability to learn new tools and establish simple, effective workflows is highly valued.

Core responsibilities

  • Develop, document and maintain clear operational guidelines, role descriptions and volunteer policies.
  • Facilitate volunteer onboarding, orientation, documentation and access management across collaboration platforms.
  • Build and refine internal communication systems to keep distributed teams connected and eliminate operational bottlenecks.
  • Coordinate volunteer engagement, check-ins and structured feedback loops to support team wellbeing and productivity.
  • Organise volunteer records, attendance registers and recognition pathways.
  • Support personnel logistics and coordination for upcoming community outreaches and field activities.

Expectations

  • A commitment of 10 hours per week for at least three months, arranged flexibly around agreed team priorities.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and cross-team communication skills.
  • Discretion, empathy and sound judgement when handling personnel and volunteer matters.
  • Consistent follow-through on onboarding, documentation and contributor support.
  • Practical ability to identify operational bottlenecks and propose constructive, lightweight solutions.
  • Initiative to improve internal systems and foster a collaborative, values-driven team culture.

Benefits and experience

  • Practical experience managing human resources, volunteer operations and agile processes for a registered nonprofit.
  • Access to modern project management, collaboration, productivity and AI-enabled tools.
  • Learning resources, practical training and relevant certification opportunities.
  • Professional recognition through verified LinkedIn experience and performance-based references or recommendations.
  • Potential consideration for future paid opportunities based on performance and organisational needs.
