We provide practical relief, support dignity and help underserved people and communities move towards greater safety, health, learning, opportunity and social connection. Feed Someone is our founding movement and flagship outreach initiative.

About the opportunity

OEF is building an editorial team to document our work and communicate humanitarian and community-impact issues with clarity and care. The Content Writer will develop articles, website content, campaign materials, briefings and impact stories in collaboration with OEF leadership and programme contributors.

Who we are looking for

Curious, imaginative and self-directed writers, students or early-career communications professionals with proven remote-working experience who can research carefully, write with clarity, propose fresh ideas and represent vulnerable people and communities respectfully. Applicants should be adaptable, highly resourceful, eager to learn, and ready to impart positive values in others. Fluency in English is required, while proficiency in Hausa is a valuable asset for community engagement and field interviews. Openness to travel for occasional in-person community outreaches in the near future is required.

Nice to have: Familiarity with Google Workspace, content management systems (CMS), search engine optimisation (SEO) and answer engine optimisation (AEO) principles, keyword research tools, and AI-enabled writing or research platforms. Applicants should be comfortable using AI to improve efficiency while maintaining accuracy, originality and sound editorial judgement. The ability to learn unfamiliar tools quickly is valued.

Core responsibilities

  • Research and create articles, programme updates, website content, campaign materials and impact stories.
  • Research assigned social-impact topics using reliable and relevant sources.
  • Interview team members, field volunteers or programme contributors when additional context is required.
  • Edit and refine content for clarity, accuracy, structure and audience relevance.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Specialist, Graphic Designers and Social Media Coordinators to prepare content for publication.

Expectations

  • A commitment of 10 hours per week for at least three months, arranged flexibly around agreed editorial timelines.
  • Strong written English and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and engagingly.
  • Consistent delivery against agreed editorial timelines.
  • Careful research, accurate sourcing and sound editorial judgement.
  • Openness to feedback and the ability to revise work constructively.
  • Creative initiative to develop original angles, suggest useful topics and move approved assignments forward independently.

Benefits and experience

  • Practical editorial and nonprofit communications experience.
  • Access to modern writing, collaboration, productivity and AI-enabled tools.
  • Learning resources, practical training and relevant certification opportunities.
  • Professional recognition through verified LinkedIn experience and performance-based references or recommendations.
